ORDER OF AUSTRALIA MEDAL AWARDED FOR SERVICES TO MUSIC

Greg Bassani, National Principal of Drumming with the Australian Pipe Band College has been awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 2011 for services to music. Greg has put in a huge effort over many years to promote drumming in Pipe Bands throughout Australia.

Greg was taught at the CBC Pipe Band and moved on to become Leading Side Drummer of the Adelaide University Regiment, Royal Caledonian Society of SA and The City of Adelaide Pipe Band, winning several Championships along the way. He has served many years as the Vice Principal of Drumming in South Australia and more recently as the National Principal of Drumming. His scientific work on mid section tuning has been published by the RSPBA.

COAPB appoints Olav Goud as Lead Tip!

olav_cowalOlav Goud has been appointed the new Lead Drummer of the City of Adelaide Pipe Band. A native from Holland, Olav moved to Scotland in 1998 to play at Polkemmet under leading drummer Arthur Cook, who he, in 2000 joined at Lothian & Border Police Pipe Band. During his time at Lothian & Borders Police, Olav was part of the Grand Slam Drum Corps in 2000 who managed to win all 5 major Drumming Prizes in Grade 2.

In 2005 Olav joined Strathclyde Police Pipe Band under Eric Ward where he won numerous major titles with the band and drum corps. During his time at Strathclyde Police, Olav was a finalist on 3 occasions at the world solo drumming championships. Olav currently plays with Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia Pipe Band under Gordon Brown, where he was part of the Champion of Champion Drum Corps 2010. Olav will continue to play with "The Boggies" during the Scottish Summer.



 

Celebrate Robbie Burns Supper with the City of Adelaide Pipe Band!

burns_blueCelebrate Robbie Burns Birthday in style at Adelaide's premier Scottish Pub, the Rob Roy Hotel. In true style, the City of Adelaide Pipe Band is holding a Burns Supper to remember the life of Scotland's national poet. Join the Band on the 29th of January for a night of food, music and frivolities starting at 7pm for a 7:30pm sit down. Enjoy a fun Ceilidh atmosphere with performances by the City of Adelaide Pipe Band, Highland Dancers and recitals of Burns' best poetry, and for those that like to get involved there will be a chance for you to dance too!

But most importantly, a Burns Supper would not be complete without the traditional Scottish fare of Cock-a-Leekie Soup and Haggis with Neeps and Tatties, and will be followed by a Cheeseboard, Tea & Coffee. We promise you the food will not dissapoint!

Lastly, for those that enjoy a wee dram (or three), the Streah Malt Whisky Club will be running a tasting session on the night for an additional cost.

COAPB to perform "Scotland the Brave" concert with the ASO

scottish_flagFor the second time, the City of Adelaide Pipe Band will perform live with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra to bring the the international smash hit celebration of the best of Scottish music, song and dance to the stage of the Adelaide Festival Theatre. "Scotland the Brave" features over 100 performers on stage to bring all the classic hits to life. The show also features the band's very own Pipe Sergeant Andrew Fuller as soloist, who has toured the globe with the performance throughout Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA.

Performances are on 6th February, at 2pm (Matinee) and 8pm. Tickets can be booked through BASS.
